A curious story for you… “The current special connotation of the bridge with rooms overlooking the river, was made by butchers (beccai), which in ‘400 were gathered in the shops of Ponte Vecchio to safeguard the cleanliness and decorum in the streets of the centre. The shops were then occupied by goldsmiths and jewellers by order of Ferdinand I and still Ponte Vecchio is famous for its precious art goldsmith.
